Synopsis:

Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla's father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it's time to make the long trip back to remote frontier town where she was born.

She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional-- dear God-- outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father, a man who, despite his many faults, she can't help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah-- the quite, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father's charter plane company operational-- can't imagine calling anywhere else home. And he's clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she's too pampered to handle the wild.

Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it's replaced by friendship-- or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried-- and failed at-- years ago.

It's a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

This is my first K.A. Tucker book in a long while... I have to say I am not disappointed. This book is amazing. Even though the beginning was a rough start for me, it didn't take away from the story. Tucker was trying to give us a glimpse of what Calla's life was like before she traveled to Alaska... giving us a great comparison between the two different. But her life in Toronto was boring. The beginning was boring, I had a hard time getting into it.

Then she gets to Alaska and it all changes. She gets a call and knows she has to go to Alaska. She meets Jonah and he is a big jerk but you can't help but wonder what he's hiding under all that hair and muscle. When she finally gets under his skin and you really see the underside of the real Jonah, it's amazing. They balance each other out. He is a big, brooding guy, an Alaskan bush pilot and she's the city girl... but when she starts to find her roots in Alaska, it opens her eyes and really takes a look at the beauty, a big part of it due to Jonah, who decides to show her what she has been missing all these years. They butt heads her first few days in Alaska. Jonah just sees her as an entitled snooty city girl but a few close encounters opens both their eyes.

I loved Calla and Jonah. Even though there are sad moments and some scary ones too, and they made me cry, it was an amazing, wonderful story about family, loss and love. I wouldn't change anything... even though it was a slow start, that is completely forgotten after a certain point. I loved this story! It has been over a week since I finished this book and these characters are still sitting on me. I can't get them out of my head. Jonah is a dream man, I think of his character a couple times a day and hope that K.A. Tucker is writing more of these characters in this world! I want more! Their story is left open, giving Tucker plenty of room to continue this story... deep down in my heart, I know these characters are not done telling their story!
