Discussion: Reading Multiple Books at Once

Today I wanted to discuss the ups and downs of reading multiple books at once. Normally I am the type of reader who likes to only read one book at a time, on top of being a slow reader. I do not count listening to audiobooks because I don't count audiobooks as reading and considering I mostly only listen to audiobooks of books I have already read. But lately I have found myself reading a couple books at a time. Over the last few years I have seen my reading go down drastically.

Back in January of 2014 I read 8 books in the month. 4 years later, I am lucky to read 8 books total in  3 month span. Life gets in the way, yes, adulting SUCKS! I have since then gotten married and have lived in a different state, then moved back home to Massachusetts because we hated it! My husband and I have moved a lot since being together, we just moved again a month ago, but trust me, we have NO plans on moving again for a couple years.

Anyway, lately I have been reading a couple books at a time. Mostly because I wanted to really knock a some books off my ever growing listen, but I have realized that I have really been enjoying it. But then I found myself into one book more than the other but that still didn't stop me from enjoying having the choice to switch books when I wanted to, which I never use to do. I had one book started and I stuck to that one book. In the last month or so, I noticed the changes in my reading habits and that's what lead to the idea of this discussion post.

The downside of reading two books at once, which I am currently doing, is that it is very easy to be distracted by the other book. It is very easy to get lost in one more than the other. When you find reading time, you find yourself reading more of one book than the other is what is currently happening to me. I really feel it is a mood thing and how much your brain tells you how much you can handle at that moment in life. If you are having a crazy hard, busy week, I find it much harder juggling two different books. But then there are other weeks where you are like, "bring on the reading." As for me right now, I haven't been overly busy, *which is fine by me, things at work have finally slowed a little* but I fell harder into one book and fell behind in the other.

The upside is knocking out two books at once. Especially for someone like me who reviews books for both self-publishing authors and traditionally published authors. There are times I don't even know I'm receiving a book, it just shows up on my Kindle, sometimes they send an email, sometimes they don't. I love it when I can knock out a couple books at a time. Again, it is a life preference, when things get busy at work again, I don't see myself reading more than a book at a time, but right now, I am going to soak it all up and enjoy my summer!

If you want to chat, find me over on Instagram! I am always there chatting with other book lovers. I am on there 24/7... Not even a joke!
