The Brightest Sunset by Aly Martinez | Review!

Blurb:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Bullshit.
Words destroyed me.
"I'm sorry. She didn't make it."
"Daddy, he can't breathe!"
"There's nothing more we can do for your son."
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn't acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words-- that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
"He's gone."
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
"Hi. I'm Charlotte Mills."

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today Bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

My Review:

"He's making me happy. He's making me laugh. And, even when I'm crying, he makes me feel safe. He makes me feel loved. He's reminding me that the world is full of light even when you can't see it. And, more than all of that, he's shown

me that there doesn't have to be light for something to be beautiful. Love can grow in the darkness."

Holy shit! Another great second book in a duet series from Aly Martinez. Right off the bat, I am going to say you absolutely cannot read this book if you have not read The Darkest Sunset, you will completely 100% spoil yourself. These books are made to read in order, they are not companions.

This is the second summer I have read and reviewed a duology from Aly. Her duologies are nothing short of amazing. Her writing, plots and storylines are always right there with you.

"If the way I feel with Porter is the product of a game, then I am willing to be his pawn for the rest of my life."

The ending of book one was a huge shocker. I did not see it coming. Aly Martinez is good at covering her tracks that way. I think her writing is phenomenal, she can write the hell out of a story. Her books are not the normal, light fluffy reads. She doesn't really do much dark romance either. She is much more of the author who writes about the heavy hearted subjects. Her last two duologies have involved situations with children. But because this is a second book, I cannot in anyway go into details due to spoilers.

I love these characters. They both have felt much pain and heartbreak in their lives. When they are together they balance each other out. They both have been in a dark place, but they draw each other out. Their love is intense, but it's as if you can feel it to the core. Aly's writing does that. I love these books. This is the second summer we have received a duology from Aly Martinez, I have my fingers crossed for a new duology next summer!

"It felt as though the air had become electrified. His face was tight, and his jaw was clenched. But his eyes- God, I will never forget his eyes- were filled with light."

5 amazing stars!
