Top Five Summer Must Reads!
My Summer Must Reads is a list of five books that I really want to get through this summer. I might not get to all of them but these are books I have had for a while, both paperback and my Kindle. My TBR pile is HUGE! I am not even kidding. So below I will be sharing five books that I plan to get through this summer. None of these books will be new releases, they are all books I have had sitting waiting for me to get to.
**I am keeping this list kind of short because I know there will be ARCs coming this summer and I do have a list of new releases that I want to read ASAP!**
1. Heat Wave by Karina Halle
This door happens to lead to paradise.
And a man I can never, ever have.
Still grieving the loss of her sister who died two years ago, the last thing Veronica "Ronnie" Locke needed was to lose her job at one of Chicago's finest restaurants and have to move back in with her parents. So when a window of opportunity opens for her- running a kitchen at a small Hawaiian hotel- she's be crazy not to take it.
The only problem is, the man running the hotel drives her crazy:
Logan Shephard.
It doesn't matter that he's got dark brown eyes, a tall, muscular build that's sculpted from daily surfing sessions, and a deep Australian accent that makes your toes curl.
What does matter is that he's a grump.
Kind of an asshole, too.
And gets under Ronnie's skin like no one else.
But the more time Ronnie spends on the island of Kauai, falling in love with the lush land and its carefree lifestyle, the closer she gets to Logan. And the closer she gets to Logan, the more she realizes she may have pegged him all wrong. Maybe it's the hot, steamy jungles or the invigorating ocean air, but soon their relationship becomes utterly intoxicating.
There's just one major catch.
The two of them together would incite a scandal neither Ronnie, nor her family, would ever recover from.
Forbidden, illicit, off-limit- sometimes the heat is worth surrendering to, even if you get burned.
2. The Ground Rules by Roya Carmen
**The last couple books I have read by Roya Carmen were the Riverstone Estate Series, so I am looking forward to returning to the Ground Rules trilogy!**
Five simple rules. And it was very simple...until it wasn't.
It could have been much worse. We weren't thinking straight and had put everything on the line- risking our marriages. So when Weston ended the arrangement, it was for the best- for all of us. But I was still heartbroken. I thought I'd shatter into a million pieces. I didn't, I survived. Not only did I survive, I came out stronger and ready to move on with my life.
But then...
Weston reaches out to me. With a few soft words, a gentle touch and a lingering gaze, he crumbles all my efforts.
Neither Gabe nor I want to start this again, and we are determined to fight the temptation. But Weston and Bridget are not taking no for an answer, and the pull between all of us is still so strong.
I tell myself I can handle it this time. This time, I am in the driver's seat. This time, I am rewriting the ground rules.
3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She's funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place.
Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the little lies that can turn lethal.
4. This is Not Over by Holly Brown
You'll have your deposit within seven business days, just like it says on Getaway.com. I've put through a refund to your credit card for the full amount, minus $200 to replace the stained sheets....
Miranda.
When 30-year-old Dawn reads Miranda's email, she sees red. People have always told Dawn she's beautiful, and she just hopes they don't see beneath-to how she grew up, to what she's always tried to outrun. She revels in her getaways with her perfect (maybe too perfect) husband, the occasional long weekend in luxurious homes, temporarily inhabiting other people's privileged lives. Miranda's email strikes a nerve, with its lying intimation that Dawn is so dirty you need to throw out her sheets.
Beware of your "host"
I wouldn't have left a review at all, if I didn't feel it was my civic duty to warn others...
57-year-old Miranda thought she'd seen it all, but she can't believe her eyes when she reads Dawn's review. She's a doctor's wife but she needs that rental money, desperately. People might think her life is privileged, but they don't know what's really going on. They don't know about her son. She won't take this threat to her livelihood-to her very life-lying down.
Two very different women with this in common: Each harbors her own secret, her own reason why she can't just let this go. Neither can yield, not before they've dredged up all that's hidden, even if it has the power to shatter all they've built.
This is not over.
This is so no over.
5. Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she's thrilled she finally connected with someone.
When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar...who says the kiss was a terrible mistake, but who still can't keep his eyes off Louise.
And then Louise bumps into Adele, who's new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you've read before.
David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?
As Louise is drawn into David and Adele's orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can't guess how wrong--and how far a person might go to protect their marriage's secrets.
