Discussion | Current Reading Slump
I will admit, I read a lot of romance and general fiction. When you look at my reviews, most of my romance are self-publishing authors. But sometimes, you come across that one book that just opens up and shallows you whole. That my friends, has happened to me and more than once.
My reading year for 2017 did not start off very well and just saying that hurts my heart because the first two books I read of 2017 were series continuations by two amazing authors that I love deeply. But the books just fell short. It upset and hurt me.
The third book I read I went in with low hopes because. lets be real, my reading year did not start off on a homerun. But, I was surprised I freaking loved Loving Ruby by Roya Carmen, better than book one in this series, Loving Amber and because of it, I WAS in a reading slump. It was nearly five days before I started something else but believe me, I tried! I must have picked up four different books and none of them stuck, my mind kept going back to Ruby and August, so I gave up and let everything settle for a couple days.
I hate reading slumps but when the time came, I knew I would move on and I finally did on January. 30th! I received an ARC of the next Aly Martinez book. My flow is back. I know a lot of people try to give advice on what to do when you fall into a slump and I am about to give you mine. Don't push yourself! Don't try to make yourself start a new book when you aren't ready because that can take away from the true experience of that book. Wait, and when it is time to move on, you will.
