Loving Ruby by Roya Carmen | Review
Synopsis:
A sinful boss secretary romance.
I've heard all the rumours: He killed his wife. He's on house arrest. He's a vampire. Yet still, when I get a job offer from the reclusive Mr. Hyde, I jump at the chance. Yes, I know I'm crazy.
I'm cautious at first, but then I discover a beautiful, quirky man. I also see a tortured soul who lives in darkness. I know I should run, yet I can't tear myself away. I want to discover all his secrets. I desperately want to help him. And when he draws me deeper into his strange little world, I want to stay.
*Author Note: Contains sexual scenes and some coarse language. This is the second book of the Riverstone Estate Series and can be enjoyed as a STANDALONE read.*
About Roya:
Mom of three little sweethearts, writer, bookaholic, Nutella-addict, artist, graphic designer and hopeless romantic. When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, painting, yoga, camping and travel. I am a Canuck, and currently live just North of Toronto.
I write steamy romance with a good dose of angst. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting down at my laptop and making up my own stories- and if those tales should include beautiful men, a little romance, and a few steamy scenes, all the better!
My Review:
**Blogger Note: I received an advanced copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.**
This is the third book I have read thus far this year and it is by far my favorite. I freaking loved Loving Ruby. I loved her free spirit. She is the perfect balance for the dark, secretive, lonesome August Hyde.
This book will take you by surprise because it is nothing like the first book in the series, Loving Amber. It is a lot deeper and sad than first impression. Hyde seems like a jerk at first, you want to yell at him but when he opens up to Ruby, the first women he has remotely been interested in in more than two years, it is hard not to fall for him. You find out about all his rumors and what really happened to him.
Ruby draws him out, gets him to open his eyes to the world and what he is missing out on. This series gets better with each book as I admit right now I enjoyed Ruby better than Amber. My only issue is that I feel the ending was a bit rushed but it really didn't change how I feel about the story, it doesn't change the storyline at all. I love August Hyde and I have to admit that a part of him reminds me of Matt Sky from the Night Owl Series by M. Pierce, which is one of my favorite series of all time!
Roya Carmen is an amazing writer and storyteller. She knows how to grab her readers, drag them in by their heartstrings. Each one of her books and series are amazing. She just gets better and better in my opinion. I will read anything by this author.
One Recommendation: Even though it says that this book can be read as a standalone, I would not, read this series in order. If you read Loving Ruby before Loving Amber, it can and will spoil Loving Amber for you!
5 happy owls!
