The Virgin Romance Novelist by Meghan Quinn | Review
*** Blogger Note: I received this novel from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. ***
The Virgin Romance Novelist centers around a young girl, just out of college, living in New York City. Rosie lives with her two best friends, Delaney and Henry, all three just out of college. Rosie is a striving writer, working for some stupid cat magazine when she really wants to be a romance novelist.
Only problem is, to write about sex, you need to know about sex. Rosie is a 23 year old virgin. She has been waiting around for the right guy to give her virginity to. It also doesn’t help that she lives inside her books. When her best friends tell her it’s time she gives it up, not only for her sake but for the sake of her career, she is set up on a number of serial dates and with each date, something outrageous happens.
This book was funny, there were many moments I was laughing out loud in the middle of the night but Rosie got on my nervous a little. She was so picky at times and some of the things she said I just wanted to hit her. She lived in her old fashioned romance novels that our mothers read back in the day. Sex in real life isn’t like that. It was annoying.
I loved Henry, one of her best friends and roommate. You could see his feelings for Rosie clean and clear! As she goes on all these dates, you could see it bothered Henry. Somewhere along this story, you just know Henry is the one for her but she is so blinded by their friendship, she doesn’t see it. As she goes on date after date, it kind of comes predecible, you just know something is going to happen, and each time it is hilarious.
Another HUGE problem I have is that like in 50 Shades, Rosie nicknames her vagina! She calls it Virginia and each time she goes out with someone or she kisses a man, she says things like. “Virginia is awaken.” “Virginia is swooning, she is feeling the heat.” I got so annoyed with that! It was like come on!!!!!
But overall I enjoyed this book. In ways the writing style reminded me of Cassie Mae novels. The characters are funny. They live in the world of technology we live in today. Rosie is addicted to her Kindle and loves romance novels. This book is her living in her own romance novel, she writes her own story.
This book was a first for me from Meghan Quinn and I will be reading more of her books soon.
