Discussion: Read-A-Thons | And why there are so many of them!

So I have spent the last 30 minutes on BookTube watching new videos and I came across another Read-A-Thon. From what I have seen, there are like 4 different Read-A-Thons going on just in the month of June alone. That's crazy. I understand that everyone wants to knock some of their To Be Read list down and it can happen, but at the same time new books release every month and we buy books, no matter if they are physical copies or Ebooks, even receiving books from publishers and Indie Authors, but our lists will always be big, or maybe not big but it will always be there.

What I don't understand is why do we need to have Read-A-Thons? I get it is fun and gets us interacting with other book lovers around the world but to have up to 5 a month, I just don't see the need. If you want to read, read, you don't need a Read-A-Thon to make you read books that are on your TBR.

Yes, I am participating in a Read-A-Thon this month, the #TBRTakedown, which is going on right now, but I have never participated in a Read-A-Thon and want to be able to say that I have. But I have no plans on taking part on every single one. My life just won't let that happen. I work 2 jobs, a fiance and a home that needs taking care of, it just isn't possible.

I just feel that all these Read-A-Thons are unrealistic. Maybe it's just me. But I am having fun with the #TBRTakedown. I don't see myself doing another Read-A-Thon for a while. Maybe one more this summer but that's it. I guess we will see what happens.
