Discussion | Goodreads Reading Challenge
I was just on my Goodreads, just checking out what's going on over there. I don't always stay up to date on my Goodreads like I once use to. But there is something about Goodreads that I don't like and I have mentioned this a few times over on my Facebook page.
The Goodreads Reading Challenge!
So many people participate in this every year and so many ladies and gents set such high reading goals for themselves. When the end of the year comes, if they haven't fulfilled this goal, they up their goal for the next year.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Reading is suppose to be fun, something peaceful and enjoying to do on our own time, not for some outrageous goal we feel we need to complete!
I do not participate in this and I do not believe in it. I set my goal at 1 book because for a month every time I logged into my Goodreads it would ask me to set a goal, it got seriously annoying, so I set it at 1 book.
You shouldn't have to set a reading goal in order to read 10, 20, 50, 100 books in a year. Reading 1 book is an accomplishment! It is so hard these days to get kids off their phones, computers, and video games and make them read a book or go to the library.
I am a guilty passenger when it comes to my cell phone, technology has evolved so much in the past 10 years, it is so easy to get sucked into whats going on around the world on all social media platforms... Goodreads being one of them, for me and other readers as well.
My whole point of this discussion is you don't need some ridiculous goal to make you want to read. Go to the library and let the pages suck you in, each book holds it's own magic.
