Discussion: Judging A Book By It's Cover ??
Everyone has heard the sang 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' at least once in their lives. I have, many a times. But if you've lived, then you knew that is something that isn't always easy to follow. I am actually talking about books.
Walking through the stacks of a bookstore, the first thing you see is the cover. If the cover is eye catching, then what's your first reaction? You pick it up, right because you are intrigued. You turn the book over or open the front flap and you discover the synopsis or blurb.
I many a times have been walking through the aisles of Barnes and Noble, one of the only bookstores near me and have seen a beautiful cover and picked it up before knowing what the book is about. That happened to me very recently, which inspired me to write a discussion on this topic, because it is a topic that happens around the world more frequently than any of us realize. If the cover of a book isn't eye catching, then most people are unlikely to not even pick it up. I hate to say that but it is something that is true and people need to come to the realization of this. Judging a book by it's cover. Sounds so cliche but is so true.
The book that recently caught my eye, I was in Barnes and Noble walking the new fiction aisles when my eyes hit
The Muse by Jessie Burton. I have never read anything by this author, she only has one previous book prior to The Muse. But as I walked by it, my eyes caught and before I knew it, the book was in my hands. Not only did I love the cover but the story sounded amazing. I ended up buying it that day, even though it was a $28 hardcover, I wanted that edition.
Now I did not judge this book but the cover is beautiful and that is what caught my attention. I have a very strong feeling the story will be even more beautiful.
